Decline of discourse on twitter, well this is nothing new. This is not limited to twitter but since i have a bit of experience so will use this as an example. Way back during my college days i had joined twitter, never really cared about politics but as i joined i got into lots of interesting circles. CS guys, web devs making cool stuff, even later we had roon at peak, yacine working on dingbot...vibes were interesting. Memes were there but there are was this close-knit circle, once you got in you got exposed to great many peeps in IT, cse, making things, sharing and teaching, shitposting. It was still better.

Days of proper twitter simcluster. It was not perfect, the stifling of rw and anyone center of rw voices was norm but for someone who cared little about politics it didn't matter much.

Eventually the politics in usa, elon taking over..first thing he does is destroy the simcluster, second the pay to use incentives.

Back to back blows from which it never recovered, at one point it became extremely hard to find posters with similar interest but bigger issue was whole blue check monetization thing. It opened flood gates to the slop machine which completely ingulfed twitter.

Poasters who were even regularly updating over their projects etc. deviated, they either turned into generic commentary slops or just stopped caring. Deviated. Every individual among them...

Politics, anti-indian campaigns, ragebaits, anti-any-random individual and all out catastrophic discourse which pretty much ate up everything left.

Artists being hounded, bots taking over in comment chain, bots with blueticks so you have to scroll a lot to even find some human contact...it's just over.

Quality was gone, for someone who would be new it is now impossible to find a group like simcluster of similar interests...it all devolves into continuous slop on timeline. Hate. Everything.

At the end every individual or account with decent followers goes the easiest route of ragebait, every single one. None of them care about substance there's no love for poast. It's just ragebait machine all over.

People don't really like it anymore they are probably stuck - in a dooomscroll - ragebait - some half decent post cycle.

In between these cycles i have nuked my accounts or stick to limited ones but it's not worth it anymore.

It's not like there are not good learned posters, i love the pixel artists, photographers, wanderers sharing images, people who are coding or building stuff. But the slop to even half decent post ratio is beyond salvageable.

Due to simcluster tweets would rarely cross the close knit community now it's no longer the case, worse thing is that ragebait, accounts which are just elonbuck maxxing are now pushed into the feed of everyone. Worse american childish disgusting politics into everyone's timeline worse it would be elon's himself tweet which he pushes.

When i started tinyboard, i had one plan in my mind which was find a way to link and allow sharing b/w related tinyblog based pages. It's not decentralized per se but it would be just pages which are close knit, can share and probably have the relevant post on their pages. Connected via some common frameworks.

There have been similar projects in the past, but ig i will give it a try at my end. It's better this way.

The recent fiasco at twitter and even likes of youtube has pushed me to treat algorithmic control of big tech as the biggest threat. People as unhinged as elon can be toying destroying the psyche of billions and at the bare minimum we can do is to keep ourselves away from their clutches.

Decentralize and link.
